Hello there! I’m Parham, a PhD candidate in the Bioinformatics program at UBC. My research lives at the Birol Lab at BC Cancer, where I build software and train deep learning models to analyze genomic sequences and nanopore signals. My background also includes work in reinforcement learning and NLP from my master’s degree.
My interests haven’t changed a lot since childhood. I’ve been writing code since I was 12, starting with Codeforces challenges in BASIC and C. Some of my hobbies go back even further. I’ve been playing Age of Empires 2 and cheering for Manchester United since I was six. When I step away from my research, I love walking around while taking photos and listening to music, watching tech and car reviews, and playing video games.
